There may be excess fat in some parts of the body due to weight gain or structurally, which may create problems aesthetically and in clothing selection. Excess fat is removed by a method called liposuction. However, liposuction is not a weight loss or weight loss surgery, liposuction is a body shaping surgery. Three methods are used in liposuction:
- Classic method
- Laser
- Ultrasound
Which method to use is decided depending on the area of existing fat, the amount of fat and the quality of the skin.
The classical method, which we do not use much anymore, is the method where bleeding is more and skin tightening is less.
Laser and ultrasonic methods are methods that cause less bleeding and swelling and also provide extra skin tightening. In the laser method, fats are broken down and pulled with laser energy, and in the ultrasonic method, fats are broken down and pulled out with ultrasound energy.
With liposuction, not all of the fat is removed, only the excess part is removed and the body contour is provided by leaving a certain amount of fat.
With liposuction, excess fat is broken down and removed.
Before the surgery, a detailed interview and examination is performed, and the surgery area, excess fat amount and skin quality are reviewed. The surgery can be performed with complete anesthesia. If complete anesthesia is to be performed, blood tests, heart electrocardiography and lung x-ray are taken, and the approval of the anesthesiologist is obtained. If the amount of fat is not too much and is in one area, surgery can be performed with regional anesthesia.
During the surgery, a special liquid is given to the areas where fat will be removed to reduce bleeding and to prepare the fat, then the fat is broken down and pulled out with special cannulas by entering through holes of a few millimeters using the appropriate method. The surgery may take 1-4 hours depending on the areas where fat will be removed. During the surgery, the patient is put on a special corset, and the patient wears this corset for 2-4 weeks.
If complete anesthesia is performed, the patient is given a meal 4-6 hours after the surgery, after eating, he/she can walk and is hospitalized for a day and discharged. Patients who receive regional anesthesia can eat and drink after surgery and are discharged a few hours after surgery.
After the surgery, edema occurs in all surgical areas. The patient generally starts to notice the thinning after 2 weeks, and it takes 3-6 months for the edema to completely disappear.
Since the surgery is performed through tiny holes made in invisible places, the scar is not visible or noticeable.
