Lower and Upper Eyelid Aesthetics
Structurally and over the years, there may be excess, bagging and falling of the upper eyelid skin. There may be wrinkles, laxity and bags in the lower eyelid. These conditions can cause vision problems and aesthetic problems in patients. Such patients may have the following problems:
- Excess skin and wrinkles on the eyelids
- Bags in the eyelids (excess oil or looseness of the membrane in the lid causes this)
- Looseness and sagging in the lower eyelid
- Drooping of the upper eyelid
A detailed interview and examination is performed before the surgery. The surgery can be performed with regional anesthesia or complete anesthesia.
If complete anesthesia is to be performed, blood tests, heart electrocardiography and lung x-ray are taken, and the approval of the anesthesiologist is obtained.
The surgery is performed in a fully equipped hospital and takes approximately 1-2 hours. In the surgery, excess skin is removed for the upper eyelid, leaving an incision line on the fold normally found on the lid. If necessary, excess fat in the inner and middle region that causes swelling in the upper eyelid is removed. If there is a droopy lid, the muscle that opens the upper eyelid is shortened. For the lower lid, an incision is made just below the eyelashes, inner if necessary. Excess fat in the middle and outer parts of the lower eyelid that causes bags is removed, or the membrane over the fat is tightened. If there is any looseness in the lid, it is tightened. The outer part of the lid is hung up and the excess skin is removed.
If regional anesthesia is applied, the patient can eat and drink immediately after the surgery and is discharged after a few hours. If complete anesthesia is made, the patient can be fed after 4-6 hours, can talk, can eat, drink and take care of himself on the same day, can walk after eating and is discharged the next day. By applying cold to the eye area for two days, swelling and bruising are reduced.
There may be swelling and bruising on the eyelids for about a week, and the stitches will be removed at the end of the week. The patient can work or return to normal life after a week.
After eyelid surgery, scars are almost not visible.
